History

The firm was formed in 2001. Today, the firm has three attorneys and a paralegal. Our attorneys have over 30 years of experience gained in private and corporate environments. This experience enables us to quickly and efficiently advise you in a variety of areas related to patent law, trademark law, copyright law, or any intellectual property related matter. Hammer & Associates are strong supporters of local business and technology development as is demonstrated by their sponsorship and participation in both the Charlotte Biotechnology Conference which takes place during the fall at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and the Five Ventures Conference which takes place during the spring at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

From working at the prestigious Lee, Wooden & Ziegler LLP to opening her own practice in 2001, Angeline has represented Arts & Entertainment clients large and small for nearly 20 years. She made headlines in 2010 when she secured the “Kingston Woman” rights to songwriter Helen Jones and continues to provide the same dedication to all her clients. Practicing since the first internet boom, Angeline has hands-on experience with how technology affects the creative industry. Jan Davis

Jan Davis is a Senior Intellectual Property Paralegal with over 25 years of experience in all areas. Jan maintains the patent and trademark databases (PCMaster offered by Master Data Center), coordinates all filing to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (including all patent and trademark matters), coordinates all international patent filing, directly with foreign agents, and with major conventions such as European Patent office and the World Intellectual Property Office (PCT). Jan coordinates all international trademark filing and copyright filing, and has extensive experience in assignment practice (i.e., associated with merger and acquisition of patent and trademark portfolios).

Valerie Friedrich, PhD

Valerie Friedrich is a PhD Chemist and Patent Attorney with over23 years of experience working in-house and at large law firms handling multi-million dollar patent portfolios, handling IP agreements, and working on multi-million dollar IP litigation matters. Valerie is also currently an adjunct professor of patent prosecution at the University of Houston Law Center. Before attending law school, Valerie worked as a Chemist for major international chemical corporations.

Debbie Smith

Isabel got her start working under Hugo Walters, Esq., director of the ABC Fashion Institute. She specializes in all things related to fashion law, whether that’s securing a trademark for a logo design or helping clients work through federal textile laws. Before joining Harris Ingram, she was an associate at fine arts practice Veronica Chin, PLLC. Isabel also represents fine artists, galleries, appraisers, and more on art litigation matters.
